ποΈ City reviews loss of Eastside chapel
The Gist: The former Emma Abbott Memorial Chapel at 52 Cooper Street was demolished Sept. 23 after an exterior wall neared collapse. Built in the 1890s, the building had been slated for conversion into six homes. The demolition permit requires its facade to be preserved and reassembled as part of the redevelopment.
Why It Matters: The chapel was tied to generations of Eastside families. Charleston says it is reviewing how the demolition happened and whether the permit conditions were followed.
What's Next: The city says it will require public notice before future historic demolitions and add a cultural-significance rating to its review process.

πΎ Parkshore pickleball vote waits until Oct. 13
The Gist: Charleston City Council deferred a proposal for four pickleball courts at Parkshore Park in West Ashley after neighbors raised noise concerns. The project is estimated at about $400,000, and the city would commit $255,956 by approving the current contract.
Why It Matters: The plan would use city reserve funds and remove some existing park amenities. Council members said they want to hear from neighbors about noise before deciding.
What's Next: Council is scheduled to revisit the proposal Oct. 13.
